“1 semester Dutch”
The ‘Marshall plan‘ is an action plan that has been implemented by the Walloon government, aimed at reinvigorating the regional economy. Language tuition is receiving particular attention at the moment in a drive to improve the youth’s language knowledge and stimulate employment after graduation. This plan offers pupils in the last stage of compulsory education the opportunity of being offered a scholarship.
Together with Intaco, EUROSPEAK organises a Dutch language programme in Gent. Over the course of 18 weeks students will have 21 hours of Dutch tuition per week, in small groups. In addition to the lessons, the students also work on projects: through specific tasks they get acquainted with the Flemish speaking community. Students practise Dutch in both social and professional situations, while attention is paid to the 4 skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing). There’s an evaluation at the end of every week and a more important test every 8 weeks. The programme ends with an exam. Each participant will receive a certificate on the condition that they actively participated in the programme and successfully passed the exam.
Students will stay in carefully selected host families in and around Gent. The combination of an intensive language course, projects and a stay in a Flemish family guarantees an interesting and complete ‘Dutch immersion’ programme.
Our programme is open to students with or without scholarship. It is also possible to combine a stay in Gent with the study of another foreign language.
Dates for school year 2008 - 2009: 1st trimester from Sunday 14/09 to Friday 31/01 (incl. 2 weeks of Christmas holidays), 2nd semester from Sunday 08/02 to Friday 26/06 (incl. 2 weeks of Easter holidays).
